Dr. Craig Walker is the founder, president and medical director of Cardiovascular Institute of the South, which began as a one-man practice and is now a world-renowned cardiology group. He has been a pioneer for new and improved techniques for the treatment of both coronary and peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and has served as principal investigator for numerous trials. Dr. Walker has always been passionate about nursing education. Through his extensive knowledge and research in peripheral vascular disease, Dr. Walker provides educational training courses to other physicians and nurses from around the world and is co-director of the largest PVD teaching course in the United States.

In 1973, Dr. Walker earned the Pre-Medicine Award and received his degree after only two years at Nicholls State University. In 1977, he went to medical school at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He did his internship at Lafayette Charity Hospital from 1977 to 1978 and also completed his residency at Lafayette Charity from 1978 to 1980. In 1982, Dr. Walker earned his Cardiovascular Fellowship at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and his Research Fellowship and Clinical Instructor in Cardiology and Medicine at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts in 1983.
