On the Day

Commencement is an exciting, and sometimes hectic day. Whether you are participating in the ceremony or cheering your graduate on, there's a chance you'll have questions about where to go and what to do.

Here are some important factors of the day to remember.

Assembly of Graduates

All graduates (Doctorate, Master's and Bachelor's degree candidates) will be required to attend the 11:00 a.m. Ceremony in full regalia. ALL degree candidates will be conferred at the Ceremony. Information regarding the Ceremony will be sent to the local address provided by the graduate. If you have not received information 2 - 3 weeks prior to the Ceremony or have questions about the information received, please contact the University Registrar's Office.

Appropriate Dress

Commencement is an academic event and all participants are required to dress appropriately. All graduates are required to wear the University approved Cap and Gown. Dark clothing and shoes are recommended; this will coordinate with the custom academic gowns.

Commencement Security

Due to recent events, and in order to ensure the safety of students, staff and family members attending the 2016 Commencement Exercises, increased security measures will be implemented by the University.

University Police will examine the contents of all purses, bags, packages, etc. of persons entering any of the commencement venues. Also, anyone carrying large purses, bags, etc., will not be permitted to enter any building where a commencement ceremony is being held.

Finally, all graduates will be directed to specific entrances and only designated entrances will be open to the public. We ask that you inform parents, family members, and other guests who may be planning to attend commencement of these procedures. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience these precautions may cause. However, the University's goal is to ensure the safety and security of everyone attending commencement, without in any way detracting from the main purpose of this event, which is to recognize and celebrate the graduating Class of 2016.

Special Needs

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette tries to accommodate all persons with disabilities. If you have a disability that may require special arrangements, please notify your academic dean or the University Registrar's office no later than fourteen (14) days in advance of commencement.
